It’s a Cinderella story, Chevy style. The rusty shell of a 1953 Chevrolet Custom sat in a field, exposed to the elements, then its fairy god – er, parents, found it and gave the car a new lease on life. Jack and Jennifer Weaver, owners of Acme Chop Shop in Grand Junction, Colorado don’t have magic wands and no pumpkins were involved, but the transformation was magical nonetheless.
Dubbed Jezebel, the car was little more than a shell of the body. It was missing many parts including the engine, but the Weavers saw promise and fell instantly in love. They hauled the car into their garage and the work began – more than 1,500 hours of work to be exact. They rebuilt Jezebel from bumper to bumper. Nearly every part had to be rebuilt or repaired. It was a labor of love, but when you see the finished product you can see it was definitely worth it.
Most people don’t realize what goes into a classic car restoration project. You can’t just order a hood or fender from the local dealer; it has to be fabricated. That is what the Weavers took on. They made the body parts they needed as well as the front and rear custom suspension, and frame. They also dropped in a new engine and transmission and dressed her in leather interior. Jezebel went from a scruffy Eliza Doolittle to the Belle of the Ball and a lady worthy of meeting the queen.
Jezebel’s story doesn’t end there, though. On January 20, 2017, she will start a new chapter in her life when she hits the auction block at the Scottsdale’s Barrett-Jackson Car Auction. You can view her in Scottsdale beginning January 14 when she will be on display. What does the future hold for Jezebel? We don’t know, but we’re sure it’s something wonderful.
